Lived Experience: It is imperative for me that my barbershop has resources and staff that are skilled to support those struggling emotionally and mentally. Parents also need to have a safe space to release their thoughts and feelings. Mental health must be addressed similarly like medical health. As a young child, I witnessed the impact that domestic violence had on my late mother. Today I am a strong advocate for children with traumatic negative experiences. Children needs role models as well as strategies for healing and coping skills.
Education and awareness is power! Earning a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling and completing a thesis on the Impact of Domestic Violence has on Children, truly equipped me with ways to better understand all that I lived and endured. If my late mom had a salon where she was able to be guided and supported, she could have had the strength to walk away from her toxic relationship and still be alive today enjoying life, family, and friends. Empowering people can save lives and be a powerful testimony for all.
